Family

Hamish is a matrimonial finance specialist who has experience at all levels of ancillary relief; from County Court proceedings involving a single home and modest incomes to high net worth individuals in the High Court. His practice covers interventions by family members, trustees in bankruptcy and the Crown under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. He has High Court experience of applications for financial relief in England after an overseas divorce (under the Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act 1984) and arguments concerning jurisdiction following foreign marriages.

His interest and training in mediation assist in pursuing alternative resolutions to family law disputes. Hamish is a credited mediator with the Standing Conference of Mediation Advocates.

Hamish has a particular interest in cohabitation cases. His practice includes competing actions between cohabiting couples under the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1970 and MWPA 1882 as well as TLATA 1996.

Hamish regularly conducts seminars on matrimonial finance. Topics have included: Maximising Assets in Low Income Cases, Pensions on Divorce and Financial Claims between Cohabiting Couples. His most recent lecture was given at the CLT Cohabitation, Law and Practice Seminar in September 2008. An updated copy of the lecture is available for download.

Hamish is based in our Bournemouth Chambers but is happy to travel to any of our centres. He is available to give informal updating lectures to solicitors by arrangement through his clerks.
