Crime

Christopher Parker QC joined 3PB in 1988 after 9 years service in the Royal Navy, in the latter part of which he was called to the Bar (1986). Although he sits as a Recorder (2000) in both the civil and criminal jurisdictions, he now practises exclusively in the field of crime (including Courts Martial and in the Courts Martial Appeal Court), acting for defence and prosecution in equal measure.

His work covers all aspects of criminal conduct. He advises and represents clients on murder, attempted murder, soliciting to murder and manslaughter. He also handles serious sexual offences, both contemporary and historical, and often involving young children as defendants, complainants or witnesses. He advises on marine accidents, robbery, violence, arson, blackmail and people trafficking and immigration fraud (with covert surveillance operations). He handles drug smuggling and supply, involving substantial covert operations), money laundering and fraud.

Recent notable cases include

2011

Prosecution.  Murder and violent disorder during pre-arranged fight within Kurdish community.

Defence: Serbian defendant prosecuted by SOCA as part of gang importing £250m cocaine by coopering at sea in lobster pots.

Prosecution: conspiracy to murder: 5 defendants plotting and attempting to murder 89 year old grandfather for his inheritance.

Defence: Marina development company charged with substantial regulatory breaches during demolition works within Falmouth harbour, leading to significant environmental damage through TBT pollution of the seabed.

Prosecution of swimming instructor charged with murder of physical trainer  - missing body inquiry.

Defence: Murder and three attempted murders by submariner aboard HMS Astute.

Defence: Multiple familial rape of children in Weymouth.

10 handed prosecution: manslaughter by arson, as enforcement measure by cocaine traffickers, following 4 year investigation.

2010-

Defence in trial of four Royal Marines charged with murder of sailor in a bar.

Prosecution of parents of infant presenting with shaken baby syndrome. Issues as to whether injuries were inflicted by deliberate or accidental act, and if deliberate as to identity of perpetrator.

Defence. Historical sexual abuse of three generations of children over a forty year period. Prolonged campaigns of rape and buggery.

Prosecution of man charged with murder of his elderly mother-in-law by kicking.

Five-handed prosecution of travelling roofers re-visiting pensioner in his home, and torturing him to death in order to make him give up his savings.

HMS Tireless Inquest: 6 week inquest into deaths of two RN sailors killed in explosion onboard submarine during under ice operations in the Arctic Ocean. Representing company responsible for facilitating Safety Case Report commissioned 6 years before the accident. Multiple complex issues over causation.

MFA prosecution of company for breaches of food and Environmental Protection Act - toxic slit disturbance in Falmouth harbour.

Defending one of two parents charged with child sexual abuse and bestiality offences. Diverse cut-throat arguments re duress and abuse of process argued by co-accused.

Prosecution – attempted murder by stamping.

Prosecution of defendant charged with fracturing his baby son’s skull by shaking or throwing.

Defence – defendant charged with assisting three co-accused during a pre-meditated murder which was allegedly committed in course of a Kurdish feud.

Prosecution of Officer of the Watch of cross-channel ferry charged with manslaughter and breach of duty under s58 Merchant Shipping Act 1995. Alleged to have failed to render assistance to three sailors following near miss/collision with a yacht in the English Channel.

Prosecution. Rape and attempted murder of lone female runner on heathland.

Defence of building site manager in Health and Safety Executive prosecution. Defendant was charged with conspiring to pervert course of public justice by falsifying documents in the aftermath of a crippling site accident.

Prosecution of amateur boat-builder charged with manslaughter by gross negligence. Hungarian assistant burned to death inside yacht during amateur lead-smelting operations.
